On 21st June Morecambe Bay Partnership picked up the coveted Cumbria Tourism Award for Tourism Experience of the Year 2017 for the Bay Cycle Way.
The Bay Cycle Way developed by Morecambe Bay Partnership in partnership with Sustrans, is part of the National Cycle Network and connects Walney Island to Glasson, just south of Lancaster. Funded by the Coastal Communities Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund it was launched in 2015 and the next phase of development will introduce a network of electric bike hire and charging points, enabling even more people to access the route which is already very accessible.
Susannah Bleakley, Executive Director of the Morecambe Bay Partnership, said “What an honour for Bay Cycle Way to be recognised through these awards. A huge amount of effort went into its creation and we’d like to thank everyone involved for helping to make it possible. The route has proved to be an incredible success and has been very well received, not just by local communities but by people from all over the country who are travelling to Morecambe Bay to test it out. The warm welcome that the communities and businesses around the Bay gives to its visitors is what helps make the experience of cycling the Bay Cycle Way such a great and memorable one.”
