Blackpool Illuminations: Schools Competition

Closing date 5 p.m., 17th July. LOVEmyBEACH has teamed up with Blackpool Council and illuminations curator Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to launch the LOVEmyBEACH education pack for schools with a linked competition to design a new LOVEmyBEACH poster. The winning entry, judged by Laurence, will be announced in September and the poster will be transferred onto a lightbox as part of the Blackpool illuminations. The competition is open to schools in Blackpool, Cumbria, Lancashire, Sefton and Wirral for children aged 11 and under.

The competition aims to encourage the 3 million people who visit the illuminations in Blackpool to do their bit to love beaches in the North West, which face tough new water quality standards from 2015. The winning pupil will also win a family ticket to Sandcastle Waterpark Blackpool and the school will win a workshop with a member of Keep Britain Tidy’s Eco-Schools team. For more details on how to enter follow this link.

LOVEmyBEACH is a campaign with a huge challenge: to work together to keep local beaches and bathing waters clean. The education pack is aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2 and has 6 fun activities to help children understand how to look after the sea. The pack is free and can be requested here.
