Coastal Communities Fund – 5 areas of the North West to benefit

The Coastal Communities Fund was established in 2012 to encourage the economic development of UK coastal communities by awarding funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. Recently it was announced that £36m is being given out to communities around the UK, including 5 in the North West.

  • Morecambe Bay Partnership will receive £297000 to improve visitor facilities at Morecambe Bay, including a new visitor hub and cycling infrastructure and create 10 jobs.
  • Blackpool Council will receive nearly £2 million to help create new light shows that will become a major tourist attraction and create and support nearly 550 new jobs.
  • Furness Enterprise will receive £865000 to provide business support and training to improve so local companies in and around Barrow can take advantage of  future business opportunities, creating and supporting more than 255 jobs.
  • Copeland Borough Council will receive £900000 to improve tourism by developing the Beacon Museum in Whitehaven and include a conference and learning centre, creating 17 jobs.
  • South Ribble Borough Council will receive £131000 to regenerate an under-used stretch of the Ribble Estuary coastline, near Preston, by improving parking and supporting a new village market and events organisation, creating 35 jobs.
