Sabellaria spinulosa Reef Ecology and Ecosystem Services

The Crown Estate has produced a report presenting the results of their 2008 East Coast Regional Environmental Characterisation (REC) surveys. The study was conducted by a team from Marine Ecological Surveys (MES) on behalf of the Crown Estate, to enhance knowledge and understanding of Sabellaria spinulosa reefs, and to clarify previous misconceptions. Sabellaria spinulosa reefs have been identified in seven locations within the southern part of the North Sea. The data is combined with previous fish gut contents data from the reefs to determine the ecosystem function provided by the habitat.
