Local Government Reorganisation in Lancashire

The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced, subject to Parliamentary approval, the implementation of a proposal for 4 unitary councils to be established in Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool. A statutory consultation took place earlier this year (closing 26 March 2026) on a range of proposals from local authorities within the county of Lancashire and the outcome of that consultation has now been published and can be viewed here

The 4 new local government authorities will be:

North Lancashire comprising the current council areas of Lancaster, Preston and Ribble Valley

South Lancashire comprising the current council areas of Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire

Pennine Lancashire comprising the current council areas of Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale

Fylde Coast comprising the current council areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre
