World Oceans Day, recognised by the United Nations, is a day to celebrate oceans and promote collaboration for a better future all around the world. This year the theme is “Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet” and will focus on preventing plastic pollution in the ocean. Individuals and organisations from all over the world are planning to hold and attend events to celebrate the day. The following events are being held in the North West of England, amongst others:
- A one day World Oceans Day event being held in the World Museum, Merseyside by the Liverpool University Marine Oceans & Ecology Society (LUMOES) on the 8th June
- A series of World Ocean Day events from the 8th-11th June held by the Royal Society of Biology in Fleetwood
