Policy Paper: Land Use Framework
The Land Use Framework has now been published, setting out how England can make more effective and strategic use of its land.
It follows a consultation on land use that ran from January to April 2025. The Framework incorporates the Government’s response to that consultation. A summary of responses to the consultation is available here.
The Framework is structured around three key sections:
- a vision for England’s future landscapes, informed by advanced land use change analysis
- a set of principles to guide decision-making on land use
- a programme of actions the Government will take to support land use change, working in partnership with others
This is the first Land Use Framework for England. It is intended to be iterative and will be updated every five years to reflect new evidence, priorities, and delivery experience.
