Join our Team: NWCF Job Opportunity – North West Coastal Coordinator

NW Coastal Forum

Can you be a champion for coastal sustainability in North West England?

The North West Coastal Forum is looking for a dynamic and motivated self-starter to develop and drive forward the work programme of the North West Coastal Forum. We are England’s longest standing regional Coastal Forum and became a charity in 2024 so this is a unique opportunity to grow both the Forum and your own role within it and help to make a real difference to the sustainable future of the North West’s coast and its communities.

Role: North West Coastal Coordinator with the North West Coastal Forum

  • £28509 with annual salary review
  • Fixed term: 12 months (with possible extension subject to funding)
  • Full time: 35 hours per week
  • Home-based in North West England with occasional UK travel
  • Application closing date Monday 29th June 2026.

The Forum is a registered charity in England and Wales (charity registration number 1206825). Our aim is to promote and advance, for the public benefit, the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in the coastal areas of North West England, including those under other national jurisdictions, and education in sustainable development. You will play a pivotal role in engaging new partners across the North West and helping the Forum achieve its charitable aims.

You will work with the North West Coastal Forum’s Board of Trustees and our Expert Advisory Committee to develop and deliver the work programme of the North West Coastal Forum; providing relevant information and advice, for example on strategic policy development, advancing education on coastal sustainability through provision of workshops and events, facilitating greater coordination and collaboration on coastal issues and projects, undertaking and participating in scientific research and community development, developing and participating in a range of coastal projects and identifying and securing resources for future work. You will also have the opportunity to participate in national coastal work through involvement with the Coastal Partnerships Network.

With moves for greater national coordination of coastal policy and activity and more awareness of the long term sustainability issues faced by our coastlines this is both an exciting time to be involved in coastal management and an excellent career development opportunity. Mentoring will be available.

If you have the drive and energy to make the difference then we want to hear from you.

You will be working under the guidance of the Board of Trustees, reporting directly to the Chair of the Board.

About you: You should possess a degree in a relevant discipline (such as marine and coastal management, or environmental science or geography with a strong coastal or marine management element) or have equivalent experience. You will need to demonstrate a thorough appreciation of environmental, social and economic issues at the coast, together with a sound understanding of integrated coastal zone management and its application at local, regional and national level. Effective communication, presentational, project management and IT skills are essential, and you will need to have good time and workload management skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively. Although home-based within North West England  this post will require extensive travel throughout and beyond the North West so access to a car or good public transport network is essential.

The post offers:

  • Salary £28509 per annum with annual salary review
  • Pension scheme
  • 35 hours per week
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Homeworking
  • 12 month Fixed Term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to future funding being secured

The North West Coastal Forum is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from all sections of the community.
