North West Regional Coastal Habitat Working Group

The North West Regional Coastal Habitat Working Group was established following the Coastal Habitat Creation and Restoration Conference in 2025. The group was created to bring together organisations involved in coastal habitat creation, restoration and management across North West England, providing a forum to share knowledge, coordinate activity and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Following its establishment, the Working Group merged with the North West Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) Task and Finish Group, bringing together expertise on coastal habitats and strategic shoreline management. This combined approach supports closer collaboration between organisations working to deliver habitat creation, nature recovery and climate adaptation along the North West coast.

The North West Coastal Forum chairs the Working Group and provides its secretariat, coordinating meetings, facilitating collaboration and supporting the delivery of agreed actions.

Membership includes representatives from local authorities, environmental NGOs, government agencies, estuary partnerships, academia and other organisations with an interest in the sustainable management of the North West coast. See which organisations are involved below:

The continuation and development of the Working Group has been made possible through funding provided by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, enabling the Forum to strengthen regional collaboration and support the delivery of coastal habitat and shoreline management priorities.
