The Marine Management Organisation has launched a Cuttlefish plan. This plan was launched to better monitor and collect data to feed into future decisions on potential management, rather than formal management measures being implemented, based on stakeholder feedback. MMO fisheries managers are also testing technical measures to conserve stocks.
Thus far, the MMO has:
- Introduced a voluntary code of practice on trap and pot handling in English water past 6 n, in ICES divisions 7d and 7e.
- Launched 3 cuttlefish species identification cards. These can be requested from your local MMO office. Find your local MMO office here: MMO office.
- Monitored and conducted market sampling to build an understanding of cuttlefish catch composition.
