Policy Paper
The Office for Environmental Protection has published a report that assesses the government’s progress towards the environmental targets. These are legally-binding targets. The report also assesses the goals of its Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP) which aims to restore nature and improve environmental quality.
This progress report covers the period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
The report includes chapters on:
- Thriving plants and wildlife
- Clean air
- Clean and plentiful water
- Managing exposure to chemical and pesticides
- Maximise our resources, minimise our waste
- Using resources from nature sustainably
- Mitigating and adapting to climate change
- Reduced risk of harm from environmental hazards
- Enhancing biosecurity
- Enhancing beauty, heritage and engagement with the natural environment
- EIP23 cross-cutting themes
Alongside these chapters, the report provides an in-depth assessment of improving nature and taking stock of the above themes.
