Huge congratulations to Susannah Bleakley and her team at Morecambe Bay Partnership and their partners, Sustrans for achieving this wonderful accolade to their hard work and dedication in creating a new / enhanced visitor experience around Morecambe Bay!
Susannah, Executive Director, and Janet Barton, 700 Days Coordinator of Morecambe Bay Partnership collected the award at the awards ceremony at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on November 5th. The Bay Cycle Way will now be put forward to the national VisitEngland Awards 2016.
The idea for the Bay Cycle Way was inspired by Morecambe Bay Partnership’s vision for accessing the heritage, coastline, villages and towns around Morecambe Bay, in a family-friendly, accessible and sustainable way, that would inspire local communities and visitors to explore the area, support local businesses and spread the word about what a fabulous place the Bay is. Funding was provided by the Coastal Communities Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sustrans helped to develop the route, which now forms part of the National Cycle Network (NCN 700). Lancashire and Cumbria County Councils were also involved in bringing the scheme to fruition.
