Breaking the Plastic Wave – A Comprehensive Assessment of Pathways Towards Stopping Ocean Plastic Pollution

The Pew Charitable Trusts have published a report which presents a global analysis of plastic flows into the ocean now and in the future and a pathway towards collectively solving plastic pollution.

The report was prepared by The Pew Charitable Trusts and SYSTEMIQ, working with a panel of 17 global experts, the University of Oxford, University of Leeds, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and Common Seas. The research sets out a road-map for decision-makers and indicates there is an evidence-based, comprehensive, integrated, and economically attractive pathway that could greatly reduce plastic pollution entering the ocean by around 80% over the next 20 years.

The model puts forward quantifies the sources and flows of plastic and estimates the quantity of plastic ending up in the oceans for 6 scenarios, with accompanying economic environmental and social impacts for each scenario.
