Closed – consultation: Draft National Development Framework for Wales

Closed 1st November 2019.

The National Development Framework (NDF) for Wales is a new development plan which will set the direction for development in Wales from 2020 to 2040.  It will replace the Wales Spatial Plan.

The NDF sets out a strategy for addressing key national priorities through the planning system and should be read alongside Planning Policy for Wales which provides policy on an all-Wales basis.  The NDF is a spatial plan and will work together with the Welsh National Marine Plan to provide a framework for the management of change around the Welsh coast.

The draft NDF identifies areas around Wrexham and Deeside as a National Growth Area and sections of the North Wales coast as Regional Growth Areas and region-specific policies exist for North Wales which include consideration of economic and transport links to adjacent areas of England, the rest of the UK, and to Ireland.
