National Infrastructure Planning Round up for North West England

Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm, DONG WIND (UK) Ltd (Decided)
Construction of an offshore wind farm extension located to the west and northwest of the existing offshore wind farm with an upper generating capacity of 750M. The application was consented in 2014 but an application for a non-material change was made in February 2016.

Preesall Saltfield Underground Gas Storage, Halite Energy Group (Decided)
Underground gas storage facility to store gas in, extract gas from and inject gas into, with a total storage capacity up to 900 million standard cubic metres. Application consented after appeal in July 2015. On 21 December 2015, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change issued a correction order and correction notice to make corrections to the Preesall Underground Gas Storage Facility Order 2015, as published on 17 July 2015.

Nugen’s Moorside Project in West Cumbria, Nugen (Pre-application)
New Nuclear Power Generating Station (up to 3.6GW), with ancillary and other associated development. The application is expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in April 2017.

Hydrodec Oil Re-refinery Eastham, Hydrodec Re-refining UK Ltd (Pre-application)
The construction of a new hazardous waste recovery facility at Power House Road, Eastham, Port Wirral, Merseyside comprising the construction and operation of a waste oil re-refining plant together with associated and ancillary development.. The application was expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate Q1 2015.

North West Coast Connections Project – N Grid, National Grid (Pre-application)
Proposed 400kV electricity transmission connections from NuGen?s proposed new nuclear generating station to be known as Moorside (near Sellafield) in West Cumbria to the existing transmission system in Cumbria/LancashireThe application is expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in April 2017.

Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm, DONG Energy Burbo Extension (UK) Ltd (Decided)
Burbo Bank Wind Farm Extension. The Secretary of State has granted development consent for this application. The Secretary of State has issued a correction order and notice for this application.

Alexandra Dock Biomass Project, RES UK and Ireland (Pre-application)
New Biomass energy project (output of between 100 and 150MW). The developer had not yet set a timetable for this project.

Heysham to M6 Link Road, Lancashire County Council  (Decided)
A new dual carriageway approx. 4.8 kms long to the north of Lancaster linking Junction 34 of the M6 with the junction of the A A683 and A589 by Lancaster and Morecambe College. The Secretary of State has decided under paragraph 2(1) of Schedule 6 to the 2008 Act to make non-material changes to the Lancashire County Council (Torrisholme to the M6 Link (A683 Completion of Heysham to M6 Link Road)) Order 2013 to authorise the alternative alignment as detailed in the application.
