Closed – Consultations on Marine Protected Areas

It’s a busy time for marine conservation; in addition to the recent announcements of 23 new Marine Conservation Zones Defra and Natural England have launched 6 consultations on new or extended Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in English waters – including one which combines the existing Morecambe Bay and Duddon Estuary MPAs by adding extensions – and Natural Resources Wales has launched a consultation on 3 new SPAs. Last but not least the UK Government now has  proposals for 5 Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) for Harbour Porpoise. These span English, Welsh and Northern Irish Waters but do not include any sites in North West England.

Because of the different jurisdictions covered by these areas there are different places to respond to the consultations.

The English Marine SPA proposals are on the gov.uk consultation website – click on the name of the pSPA below to be taken to the relevant page (NB the consultation close date for all 6 is the 21st April 2016):

The Harbour Porpoise SACs undergoing consultation off England and Northern Ireland inshore and offshore are led by JNCC and information can be found by following this link. (NB the consultation close date for all 3 is 19th April 2016). The pSACs are:
