Background to the event:

The UK has huge potential for blue growth, both in creating jobs and contributing to economic development. The  European Commission’s Atlantic Strategy is all about capitalising on these opportunities – the aim is to create sustainable growth in coastal regions and drive forward the ‘blue economy’ whilst preserving the environmental and ecological stability of the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Action Plan is designed to help stakeholders implement the aspirations of the Atlantic Strategy.

In 2014 the Irish Sea Maritime Forum ran an conference on Blue Growth brought people together to discuss and explore project opportunities, and this resulted in the drawing up of a Prospectus for Blue Growth which calls for expressions of interest in taking the ideas forwards into concrete funding bids. The secretariat for the ISMF is provided by Liverpool University and the North West Coastal Forum.
