Closed – consultation: Reducing unused licences (latent capacity) in the English 10 metre and under fishing sector

Closes 31st March 2015. Defra is seeking views on the current levels of latent capacity in the English 10 metre and under finfish and shellfish sectorsand how to reduce latent capacity to help to make the English inshore fleet more sustainable. The term ‘latent capacity’ is used to describe those licences issued to allow fishing for quota species which remain unused, and also licences which are used to catch 300kg of quota species or less each year. It is also used where entitlements exist to catch shellfish but are are not currently used. For more information and to view the consultation documents follow this link.
