Coastal Partnerships Network Annual Forum 2013 – 5 & 6 November

This year’s Coastal Partnerships Network Annual Forum took place in Southampton on 5th and 6th of November. Starting with a ‘behind the scenes’ visit to Southampton Docks with ABP Southampton the event, attended this year by over 45 delegates from across the UK, was designed to give local coastal partnership officers and those working with them, their steering group members and partner organisations, an opportunity to learn about and discuss a range of hot issues in coastal management including the proposed Framework Directive on Maritime Spatial Planning and Integrated Coastal Management, English Marine Plans, the work of the Local Government Association Coastal Special Interest Group, the next cycle of Water Framework Directive plans, English coastal access, marine protected areas and inshore fisheries,  and a chance to influence the development and future work programme of the Coastal Partnerships Network (CPN) – the not-for-profit umbrella body for coastal partnerships which represents their interests at national level.

The North West Coastal Forum was actively involved in organising the event along with Durham Heritage Coast, Isle of Wight Estuaries Project, Solent Forum and the Manhood Peninsula Partnership, representatives of these have also all volunteered to be on the new CPN Committee, along with Hamble Estuary Partnership, Severn Estuary Partnership and Teign Estuary Partnership representatives.

The event was part-funded by the Marine Management Organisation and Defra and ABP Mer and APB Southampton organised the field trip.

Outputs from the conference and workshop session, including all presentations, will be made available on the CPN website in due course (keep an eye on but links will also be posted on the NWCF website).
