Progress on the England Coastal Path

Whilst concerns have been raised by MPs from the North East of England about the progress of the England Coastal Path, work on the Cumbrian section is ongoing.  The England Coastal Path was a bold plan to create one of the world’s longest footpaths covering Britain’s entire 2,800-mile coastline. It was due to be completed by 2019 and expected to provide a major boost to the economy.  Delivery of the England Coast Path, under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, is governed by a ‘Coastal Access Scheme’, approved by the Secretary of State.   MPs’ comments about progress of the scheme can be downloaded via this link, and the latest monthly updates for progress in Cumbria are available here:
