Funding for coastal communities increased

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, announced last month that the Coastal Communities Fund for next year will be increased by 5% from last year, and be worth £29 million.  The scheme will also be extended to 2016 to allow even more coastal communities in the UK to benefit. The Coastal Communities Fund was launched in 2012 to invest in seaside towns and villages, helping them achieve their economic potential, reduce unemployment and create new opportunities for young people in their local area. In the North West, the Coastal Furness programme and Morecambe Bay Partnership have already received grants from the fund.  Further details of these and other projects which have been enabled by the fund can be accessed via this link.
