Maritime Strategy – Public Oral Evidence Session 10th September

The Commons Select Committee on Transport is holding a public oral evidence session on the Maritime Strategy – the Government’s strategy for the maritime sector – at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich on Tuesday 10th September. Witnesses appearing will be Stephen Hammond MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Transport, Sir Alan Massey, Chief Executive, Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Ian Woodman, Director of Maritime, Department for Transport. The session is being held in support of London International Shipping Week (9 – 13 September) which focuses on London’s vital role in maritime services and also promotes the importance of the wider UK maritime sector, which is estimated to support 537,500 UK-based jobs and is responsible for carrying around 95% of the UK’s import and export trade by volume.

As part of our inquiry into maritime strategy and to coincide with London International Shipping Week, we are pleased to announce that we will be hearing evidence from the Shipping Minister at the National Maritime Museum. We will be questioning him on how the Government works in partnership with the maritime sector to ensure the industry thrives”.
