Initiative for joint monitoring and data collection in the marine environment

With the unprecedented expansion of the UK’s Marine Protected Area (MPA) network the demands for obtaining quality marine data – which can often be expensive to collect and maintain – are ever increasing.  A new report has been published by Natural England to look at ways of reducing the cost of data collection and monitoring in the marine environment.  The report ‘Potential for joined up marine monitoring and data collection between Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies and industry’  recommended that Natural England considers forging innovative partnerships with developers operating in the marine environment and includes good practice guidance on improving information exchange.  Further information and the full report can be accessed via this link.
