Responses to consultation on designation of Marine Conservation Zones published

A consultation on proposals for the designation of Marine Conservation Zones was run by Defra between December 2012 and March 2013.  Defra received an exceptional number of responses, over 40,000. A summary of these responses has now been published. Only 4 of the 15 MCZs (19 including the recommended reference areas) put forward by the Irish Sea Conservation Zones Regional Stakeholder Group were included by Defra in the first tranche of MCZs to be considered for designation. This consultation was the primary opportunity for people to have their say and influence the decisions on how many MCZs are designated, where they are designated and for what features.  The documents that made up the consultation and the summary of responses are available via this link.
