New report highlights the financial and emotional value of protecting our seas

A study of divers and anglers has put a value in £ billions on the economic benefits and public well-being that the creation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in UK seas will bring, in addition to the benefits to habitats and wildlife.  The UK National Ecosystem Assessment final report ‘The value of potential marine protected areas in the UK to divers and sea anglers’. published in July 2013, has highlighted that marine wildlife and habitat protection in the proposed Marine Conservation Zones around England could have huge socio-economic benefits, well in excess of the costs associated with setting up these areas.  The full report can be downloaded here.
