Cumbria rejects nuclear waste storage plan

Cumbria County Council has voted to withdraw from the process to find a potential location for a deep geological repository to dispose of higher activity radioactive waste.  The vote, which ended the council’s four-year formal involvement in the process, was taken at a meeting on 30 January.  The vote has raised controversy with opposition from the coastal borough councils of Allerdale and Copeland.  Further details are available via this link.
